The search for a missing 55-year-old swimmer has been indefinitely suspended at Lovers Point on Monday evening, according to a joint media release from officials.

The U.S. Coast Guard identified the swimmer as Erica Fox, 55, of Monterey County, California. Her father said she was a triathlete.

Fox was one of about 15 swimmers from the group out in the water that morning, Sarah Rubin, who is the editor of Monterey County Now, confirmed. Rubin is also a member of the Kelp Krawlers and was present at the time of Fox’s disappearance.

The triathlete went missing while swimming off the coast of California during her weekly swim club meeting. Eyewitnesses report having seen shark splashes in the water shortly before her disappearance.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office continued searching Tuesday for a missing 55-year-old swimmer who disappeared after a reported shark attack at Lovers Point.

The Pacific Grove Police Department received reports of a possible shark attack around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday after a witness told officials they saw the incident from the shoreline. Lovers Point Beach in Pacific Grove and McAbee Beach and San Carlos Beach in Monterey are closed through Tuesday, officials told ABC.
