Long Islanders are in for a messy morning commute as the region is being hit by a wintry mix of snow and rain Tuesday, forecasters said. Light snow began falling on central Long Island shortly after 5 a.m. and was expected to continue through the morning hours as it changes over to rain, according to the National Weather Service.
